4th Day of Christmas: Lessons Learned in 2017

Uber Data Breach 4th Day of Christmas

Uber Data Breach

Oh dear. What can we say? One of the more recent breaches to have been announced, but not the most recent to happen (hey Uber!). This was a big fail in terms of dealing with a breach proactively. Thought to have occurred in October 2016, the breach was not made public until November 2017. Not only that, 57 million customers were affected by the breach and we are yet to hear any more about it.

There is a very obvious lesson to be learned from this data breach. Don’t keep your data breach a secret for over a year springs straight to mind! Really it means that businesses should have a plan for the day in which they could get hacked. It is always easier to have an action plan to implement than to not plan for it at all. This includes letting those affected know as soon as possible about the breach, as well as ensuring that all possible measures will be undertaken to ensure further breaches are unlikely.
